To Run the New York City Marathon in November AND raise $10,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
In my last blog I shared with you my big achievement for 2014, the writing and publishing of my first book ‘Retiring In Comfort; How to Build Your Wealth for the Future’.
As I promised in my last blog, this week I am going to share with you my main goal for 2015; I am very excited to share that I will be running the New York City Marathon this year on behalf of the Leukaemia Foundation. I will be raising $10,000 to be used by the Leukaemia Foundation to support individuals with Leukaemia and their families.
When I am planning my goals I use three main motivators to inspire me; Is it something I love? Will it have an impact on the world? Will it help me create connections?
For every goal I set I ask myself ‘does this goal tie into something I love?’ By focusing my goal around something I love it maximises my chances of success, it provides the initial motivation and allows for joy in the process of achieving the goal. I love to run! I love being out early in the morning and starting the day pounding the pavement; it’s my time to process ideas, escape the grind, and clear my head.
I set myself the challenge of having an impact on the world, setting goals that make a difference in the world around me. By running the NYC Marathon on behalf of the Leukaemia Foundation I am not only challenging my running ability, I am raising money for a foundation that changes the lives of people every single day, I am having an impact on the world around me. I believe you should never waste the opportunity to use your passion to make a positive impact on the world around you.
Finally, I make sure my goal will enable me to make new connections with people. By writing my book last year I had the chance to make new connections with people I would otherwise never speak to or connect with. Likewise in my goal for 2015, I will now be making new connections with people from all walks of life as I prepare for the marathon and then compete in it.
I have now begun preparing to reach my goal for 2015, I am fresh out of knee surgery so training is slow, but I have mapped out a schedule to keep my training and fundraising on track. I look forward to updating you with my progress and trust you will keep me accountable!
